Therefore the LORD heard {this}, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel;
For a fire is kindled in mine anger, and shall burn unto the lowest hell, and shall consume the earth with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains. {shall burn: or, hath burned} {shall consume: or, hath consumed}
Therefore is the anger of the LORD kindled against his people, and he hath stretched forth his hand against them, and hath smitten them: and the hills did tremble, and their carcases {were} torn in the midst of the streets. And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?
And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.
They angered {him} also at the waters of strife, so that it went ill with Moses for their sakes:
And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched {it} out: and his hand was restored whole as the other. {hardness: or, blindness}
When God heard {this}, he was wroth, and greatly abhorred Israel:
(Now the man Moses {was} very meek, above all the men which {were} upon the face of the earth.)
But murmured in their tents, {and} hearkened not unto the voice of the LORD.
Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee?
So they gat up from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side: and Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood in the door of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their little children.
And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for {there is} no bread, neither {is there any} water; and our soul loatheth this light bread.
