And she {was} a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served {God} with fastings and prayers night and day.

Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. {for ever: Heb. to length of days}
And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.

But every vow of a widow, and of her that is divorced, wherewith they have bound their souls, shall stand against her.
Honour widows that are widows indeed.
I thank God, whom I serve from {my} forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day;
Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father's house have sinned.
