Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to afflict his soul? {is it} to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes {under him}? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the LORD? {a day...: or, to afflict his soul for a day?}
But the seventh day {is} the sabbath of the LORD thy God: {in it} thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that {is} within thy gates:
And ye shall proclaim on the selfsame day, {that} it may be an holy convocation unto you: ye shall do no servile work {therein: it shall be} a statute for ever in all your dwellings throughout your generations.
In the first day ye shall have an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.
Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.

And when the seventh month was come, and the children of Israel {were} in the cities, the people gathered themselves together as one man to Jerusalem.

Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the fast was now already past, Paul admonished {them}, {the fast: the fast was on the tenth day of the seventh month}

Therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the LORD in the ears of the people in the LORD'S house upon the fasting day: and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities.
Ye shall have one law for him that sinneth through ignorance, {both for} him that is born among the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them. {sinneth: Heb. doth}
But in those {sacrifices there is} a remembrance again {made} of sins every year.
Every vow, and every binding oath to afflict the soul, her husband may establish it, or her husband may make it void.
And when the seventh month was come, and the children of Israel {were} in the cities, the people gathered themselves together as one man to Jerusalem.
And {if} the people of the land bring ware or any victuals on the sabbath day to sell, {that} we would not buy it of them on the sabbath, or on the holy day: and {that} we would leave the seventh year, and the exaction of every debt. {every...: Heb. every hand}

For every one of the house of Israel, or of the stranger that sojourneth in Israel, which separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to a prophet to enquire of him concerning me; I the LORD will answer him by myself:
