And of Levi he said, {Let} thy Thummim and thy Urim {be} with thy holy one, whom thou didst prove at Massah, {and with} whom thou didst strive at the waters of Meribah;

And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the LORD, saying, Is the LORD among us, or not? {Massah: that is, Temptation} {Meribah: that is, Chiding, or, Strife}
And thou shalt put in the breastplate of judgment the Urim and the Thummim; and they shall be upon Aaron's heart, when he goeth in before the LORD: and Aaron shall bear the judgment of the children of Israel upon his heart before the LORD continually.
This {is} the water of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with the LORD, and he was sanctified in them. {Meribah: that is, Strife}
And he put the breastplate upon him: also he put in the breastplate the Urim and the Thummim.
They envied Moses also in the camp, {and} Aaron the saint of the LORD.
And he spake unto Korah and unto all his company, saying, Even to morrow the LORD will shew who {are} his, and {who is} holy; and will cause {him} to come near unto him: even {him} whom he hath chosen will he cause to come near unto him.

And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall ask {counsel} for him after the judgment of Urim before the LORD: at his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, {both} he, and all the children of Israel with him, even all the congregation.

And he said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Put every man his sword by his side, {and} go in and out from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbour.
And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Now this time will my husband be joined unto me, because I have born him three sons: therefore was his name called Levi. {Levi: that is, Joined}
They shall enter into my sanctuary, and they shall come near to my table, to minister unto me, and they shall keep my charge.
My covenant was with him of life and peace; and I gave them to him {for} the fear wherewith he feared me, and was afraid before my name.

And I will satiate the soul of the priests with fatness, and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, saith the LORD.

Hear another parable: There was a certain householder, which planted a vineyard, and hedged it round about, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country:

Bring the tribe of Levi near, and present them before Aaron the priest, that they may minister unto him.

And the cities which ye shall give {shall be} of the possession of the children of Israel: from {them that have} many ye shall give many; but from {them that have} few ye shall give few: every one shall give of his cities unto the Levites according to his inheritance which he inheriteth. {he...: Heb. they inherit}
And the children of Israel gave unto the Levites out of their inheritance, at the commandment of the LORD, these cities and their suburbs.
And they were to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would hearken unto the commandments of the LORD, which he commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.
