Also I brought you up from the land of Egypt, and led you forty years through the wilderness, to possess the land of the Amorite.

For the LORD thy God hath blessed thee in all the works of thy hand: he knoweth thy walking through this great wilderness: these forty years the LORD thy God {hath been} with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.
And it came to pass the selfsame day, {that} the LORD did bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their armies.
Hear this word that the LORD hath spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying,
Then God turned, and gave them up to worship the host of heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets, O ye house of Israel, have ye offered to me slain beasts and sacrifices {by the space of} forty years in the wilderness?
For I brought thee up out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed thee out of the house of servants; and I sent before thee Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.
And about the time of forty years suffered he their manners in the wilderness. {suffered...: or bore, or fed them as a nurse beareth, or feedeth, her child}
{Are} ye not as children of the Ethiopians unto me, O children of Israel? saith the LORD. Have not I brought up Israel out of the land of Egypt? and the Philistines from Caphtor, and the Syrians from Kir?
And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.
To him that smote Egypt in their firstborn: for his mercy {endureth} for ever:
And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, {and} to prove thee, to know what {was} in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no.
Which hast set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, {even} unto this day, and in Israel, and among {other} men; and hast made thee a name, as at this day;
Moreover your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, and your children, which in that day had no knowledge between good and evil, they shall go in thither, and unto them will I give it, and they shall possess it.
I {am} the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. {bondage: Heb. servants}
And foundest his heart faithful before thee, and madest a covenant with him to give the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Jebusites, and the Girgashites, to give {it, I say}, to his seed, and hast performed thy words; for thou {art} righteous:
And I said unto you, Ye are come unto the mountain of the Amorites, which the LORD our God doth give unto us.
Forty years long was I grieved with {this} generation, and said, It {is} a people that do err in their heart, and they have not known my ways:
Yea, forty years didst thou sustain them in the wilderness, {so that} they lacked nothing; their clothes waxed not old, and their feet swelled not.
For he remembered his holy promise, {and} Abraham his servant.
But your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have despised.
Wherefore I caused them to go forth out of the land of Egypt, and brought them into the wilderness.

The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with an high arm brought he them out of it.
And Israel took all these cities: and Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all the villages thereof. {villages: Heb. daughters}
