And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Hezekiah, which {was} the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, {that} Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria, and besieged it.

And the LORD rejected all the seed of Israel, and afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of spoilers, until he had cast them out of his sight.

Now therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, {even} the king of Assyria, and all his glory: and he shall come up over all his channels, and go over all his banks:
{Is} not Calno as Carchemish? {is} not Hamath as Arpad? {is} not Samaria as Damascus?
Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards.
It may be the LORD thy God will hear the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master hath sent to reproach the living God, and will reprove the words which the LORD thy God hath heard: wherefore lift up {thy} prayer for the remnant that is left. {left: Heb. found}
Wherefore I have delivered her into the hand of her lovers, into the hand of the Assyrians, upon whom she doted.
And the LORD said unto him, Call his name Jezreel; for yet a little {while}, and I will avenge the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu, and will cause to cease the kingdom of the house of Israel. {avenge: Heb. visit}
