(For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)

Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so {let} the wives {be} to their own husbands in every thing.
This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth. {ground: or, stay}
And hath put all {things} under his feet, and gave him {to be} the head over all {things} to the church,
Wherefore kick ye at my sacrifice and at mine offering, which I have commanded {in my} habitation; and honourest thy sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the chiefest of all the offerings of Israel my people?
Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God: {Gentiles: Gr. Greeks}

And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. {Peter: this name signifies a rock}
Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of {their} conversation. {have the rule: or, are the guides}
Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.
To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect, {written: or, enrolled}

What? have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or despise ye the church of God, and shame them that have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise {you} not. {have not: or, are poor?}
Now there dwelt an old prophet in Bethel; and his sons came and told him all the works that the man of God had done that day in Bethel: the words which he had spoken unto the king, them they told also to their father.

There is difference {also} between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please {her} husband.
