And David arose, and fled that day for fear of Saul, and went to Achish the king of Gath.
And David said unto his men, Gird ye on every man his sword. And they girded on every man his sword; and David also girded on his sword: and there went up after David about four hundred men; and two hundred abode by the stuff.
And it came to pass at the end of three years, that two of the servants of Shimei ran away unto Achish son of Maachah king of Gath. And they told Shimei, saying, Behold, thy servants {be} in Gath.
And David enquired at the LORD, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake {them}, and without fail recover {all}.
Then Jephthah fled from his brethren, and dwelt in the land of Tob: and there were gathered vain men to Jephthah, and went out with him. {from: Heb. from the face of}
And his men that {were} with him did David bring up, every man with his household: and they dwelt in the cities of Hebron.
Now these {are} they that came to David to Ziklag, while he yet kept himself close because of Saul the son of Kish: and they {were} among the mighty men, helpers of the war. {while...: Heb. being yet shut up}
So David went, he and the six hundred men that {were} with him, and came to the brook Besor, where those that were left behind stayed.
And it came to pass at the end of three years, that two of the servants of Shimei ran away unto Achish son of Maachah king of Gath. And they told Shimei, saying, Behold, thy servants {be} in Gath.
Then Hazael king of Syria went up, and fought against Gath, and took it: and Hazael set his face to go up to Jerusalem.
