Now these {are} they that came to David to Ziklag, while he yet kept himself close because of Saul the son of Kish: and they {were} among the mighty men, helpers of the war. {while...: Heb. being yet shut up}

And David arose, and he passed over with the six hundred men that {were} with him unto Achish, the son of Maoch, king of Gath.
These also {are} the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, {and} with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of the LORD concerning Israel. {strengthened...: or, held strongly with him}
And said, My God forbid it me, that I should do this thing: shall I drink the blood of these men that have put their lives in jeopardy? for with {the jeopardy of} their lives they brought it. When one told me, saying, Behold, Saul is dead, thinking to have brought good tidings, I took hold of him, and slew him in Ziklag, who {thought} that I would have given him a reward for his tidings: {thinking...: Heb. he was in his own eyes as a bringer, etc} {who...: or, which was the reward I gave him for his tidings}
And Ner begat Kish; and Kish begat Saul; and Saul begat Jonathan, and Malchishua, and Abinadab, and Eshbaal.
These {things} did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and had the name among the three mighties.

Now it came to pass after the death of Saul, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, and David had abode two days in Ziklag;
And his men that {were} with him did David bring up, every man with his household: and they dwelt in the cities of Hebron.
Judah, thou {art he} whom thy brethren shall praise: thy hand {shall be} in the neck of thine enemies; thy father's children shall bow down before thee.
And Ziklag, and Madmannah, and Sansannah,
Then Achish gave him Ziklag that day: wherefore Ziklag pertaineth unto the kings of Judah unto this day.
And when David came to Ziklag, he sent of the spoil unto the elders of Judah, {even} to his friends, saying, Behold a present for you of the spoil of the enemies of the LORD; {present: Heb. blessing}
And at Bethuel, and at Hormah, and at Ziklag,
