So the LORD sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed: and there died of the people from Dan even to Beersheba seventy thousand men.
And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they {were} all dead corpses.
Joab the son of Zeruiah began to number, but he finished not, because there fell wrath for it against Israel; neither was the number put in the account of the chronicles of king David. {was: Heb. ascended}
And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand.

When thou takest the sum of the children of Israel after their number, then shall they give every man a ransom for his soul unto the LORD, when thou numberest them; that there be no plague among them, when {thou} numberest them. {their number: Heb. them that are to be numbered}
And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.
Now they that died in the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, beside them that died about the matter of Korah.
But that ye must turn away this day from following the LORD? and it will be, {seeing} ye rebel to day against the LORD, that to morrow he will be wroth with the whole congregation of Israel.
