But my people would not hearken to my voice; and Israel would none of me.
But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:
And they all with one {consent} began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.
Let thine hand help me; for I have chosen thy precepts.
The wise {men} are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom {is} in them? {The wise...: or, Have they been ashamed, etc} {what...: Heb. the wisdom of what thing}
Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage for ever: for they {are} the rejoicing of my heart.
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children. {destroyed: Heb. cut off}

Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded. {shall be rewarded: or, shall be in peace}

But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:
And it came to pass, {that} when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast {it} into the fire that {was} on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that {was} on the hearth.
And if ye shall despise my statutes, or if your soul abhor my judgments, so that ye will not do all my commandments, {but} that ye break my covenant:
But he forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and consulted with the young men that were grown up with him, {and} which stood before him:
The steps of his strength shall be straitened, and his own counsel shall cast him down.
Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.
He {is in} the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth. {erreth: or, causeth to err}
Correction {is} grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: {and} he that hateth reproof shall die. {Correction: or, Instruction}
But your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have despised.
I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and {that} the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
