When Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, heard {of it}, it grieved them exceedingly that there was come a man to seek the welfare of the children of Israel.

But when Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, and Geshem the Arabian, heard {it}, they laughed us to scorn, and despised us, and said, What {is} this thing that ye do? will ye rebel against the king?
But it came to pass, {that} when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites, heard that the walls of Jerusalem were made up, {and} that the breaches began to be stopped, then they were very wroth, {were made up: Heb. ascended}
And before this, Eliashib the priest, having the oversight of the chamber of the house of our God, {was} allied unto Tobiah: {having...: Heb. being set over}
For thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast clapped {thine} hands, and stamped with the feet, and rejoiced in heart with all thy despite against the land of Israel; {hands: Heb. hand} {feet: Heb. foot} {heart: Heb. soul}
Wrath {is} cruel, and anger {is} outrageous; but who {is} able to stand before envy? {Wrath...: Heb. Wrath is cruelty, and anger an overflowing} {envy: or, jealousy?}
Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands:
Now it came to pass, when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and Geshem the Arabian, and the rest of our enemies, heard that I had builded the wall, and {that} there was no breach left therein; (though at that time I had not set up the doors upon the gates;)
And Moab was sore afraid of the people, because they {were} many: and Moab was distressed because of the children of Israel.
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.
The wicked shall see {it}, and be grieved; he shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away: the desire of the wicked shall perish.
But it came to pass, that when Sanballat heard that we builded the wall, he was wroth, and took great indignation, and mocked the Jews.
I will bear the indignation of the LORD, because I have sinned against him, until he plead my cause, and execute judgment for me: he will bring me forth to the light, {and} I shall behold his righteousness.
For in the going up of Luhith continual weeping shall go up; for in the going down of Horonaim the enemies have heard a cry of destruction. {continual...: Heb. weeping with weeping}

Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow.

On that day they read in the book of Moses in the audience of the people; and therein was found written, that the Ammonite and the Moabite should not come into the congregation of God for ever; {they...: Heb. there was read} {audience: Heb. ears}
For a servant when he reigneth; and a fool when he is filled with meat;
The nations shall see and be confounded at all their might: they shall lay {their} hand upon {their} mouth, their ears shall be deaf.
Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead.
Then the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah, and troubled them in building,
Because of the house of the LORD our God I will seek thy good.
For Mordecai the Jew {was} next unto king Ahasuerus, and great among the Jews, and accepted of the multitude of his brethren, seeking the wealth of his people, and speaking peace to all his seed.

And {one} of the sons of Joiada, the son of Eliashib the high priest, {was} son in law to Sanballat the Horonite: therefore I chased him from me.
But when Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, and Geshem the Arabian, heard {it}, they laughed us to scorn, and despised us, and said, What {is} this thing that ye do? will ye rebel against the king?
Now Tobiah the Ammonite {was} by him, and he said, Even that which they build, if a fox go up, he shall even break down their stone wall.
