And all the people stood to the covenant.
Ye stand this day all of you before the LORD your God; your captains of your tribes, your elders, and your officers, {with} all the men of Israel,
And there went up {some} of the children of Israel, and of the priests, and the Levites, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nethinims, unto Jerusalem, in the seventh year of Artaxerxes the king.
Moreover the Nethinims dwelt in Ophel, unto {the place} over against the water gate toward the east, and the tower that lieth out. {dwelt...: or, which dwelt in Ophel, repaired unto} {Ophel: or, tower}
The Nethinims: the children of Ziha, the children of Hasupha, the children of Tabbaoth,
That thou shouldest enter into covenant with the LORD thy God, and into his oath, which the LORD thy God maketh with thee this day: {enter: Heb. pass}
So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and set them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem.
