The sacrifices of God {are} a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
Also on the tenth {day} of this seventh month {there shall be} a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD.
It {shall be} a sabbath of rest unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls, by a statute for ever.

For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name {is} Holy; I dwell in the high and holy {place}, with him also {that is} of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

Blessed {are} they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

I have seen his ways, and will heal him: I will lead him also, and restore comforts unto him and to his mourners.
And it came to pass, that when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the sabbath, I commanded that the gates should be shut, and charged that they should not be opened till after the sabbath: and {some} of my servants set I at the gates, {that} there should no burden be brought in on the sabbath day.
