Appoint a way, that the sword may come to Rabbath of the Ammonites, and to Judah in Jerusalem the defenced.

But I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah, and it shall devour the palaces thereof, with shouting in the day of battle, with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind:
Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will cause an alarm of war to be heard in Rabbah of the Ammonites; and it shall be a desolate heap, and her daughters shall be burned with fire: then shall Israel be heir unto them that were his heirs, saith the LORD.
And I will make Rabbah a stable for camels, and the Ammonites a couchingplace for flocks: and ye shall know that I {am} the LORD.
For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of giants; behold, his bedstead {was} a bedstead of iron; {is} it not in Rabbath of the children of Ammon? nine cubits {was} the length thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man.
[A Song of degrees.] They that trust in the LORD {shall be} as mount Zion, {which} cannot be removed, {but} abideth for ever.
Walk about Zion, and go round about her: tell the towers thereof.
Moreover Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the corner gate, and at the valley gate, and at the turning {of the wall}, and fortified them. {fortified: or, repaired}
And Joab fought against Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and took the royal city.
Now after this he built a wall without the city of David, on the west side of Gihon, in the valley, even to the entering in at the fish gate, and compassed about Ophel, and raised it up a very great height, and put captains of war in all the fenced cities of Judah. {Ophel: or, the tower}
So David dwelt in the fort, and called it the city of David. And David built round about from Millo and inward.
Also he strengthened himself, and built up all the wall that was broken, and raised {it} up to the towers, and another wall without, and repaired Millo {in} the city of David, and made darts and shields in abundance. {darts: or, swords, or, weapons}
And ye have numbered the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses have ye broken down to fortify the wall.
The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world, would not have believed that the adversary and the enemy should have entered into the gates of Jerusalem.

And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth {to battle}, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. And thou, son of man, prophesy and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD concerning the Ammonites, and concerning their reproach; even say thou, The sword, the sword {is} drawn: for the slaughter {it is} furbished, to consume because of the glittering:

And it came to pass, that after the year was expired, at the time that kings go out {to battle}, Joab led forth the power of the army, and wasted the country of the children of Ammon, and came and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried at Jerusalem. And Joab smote Rabbah, and destroyed it. {after...: Heb. at the return of the year}
If I whet my glittering sword, and mine hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to mine enemies, and will reward them that hate me.
And their coast was Jazer, and all the cities of Gilead, and half the land of the children of Ammon, unto Aroer that {is} before Rabbah;
And Joab sent messengers to David, and said, I have fought against Rabbah, and have taken the city of waters.
