Because thy rage against me, and thy tumult, is come up into mine ears, therefore will I put my hook in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest.
Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! {Let} the potsherd {strive} with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?
And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.
Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted {thy} voice, and lifted up thine eyes on high? {even} against the Holy One of Israel.
Shall the axe boast itself against him that heweth therewith? {or} shall the saw magnify itself against him that shaketh it? as if the rod should shake {itself} against them that lift it up, {or} as if the staff should lift up {itself, as if it were} no wood. {the rod...: or, a rod should shake them that lift it up} {itself, as if...: or, that which is not wood}
For he stretcheth out his hand against God, and strengtheneth himself against the Almighty.
Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?
{He is} wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened {himself} against him, and hath prospered?
LORD, {when} thy hand is lifted up, they will not see: {but} they shall see, and be ashamed for {their} envy at the people; yea, the fire of thine enemies shall devour them. {at...: or, toward thy people}
Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him?
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The children of Israel and the children of Judah {were} oppressed together: and all that took them captives held them fast; they refused to let them go.
But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him: {in pride: or, to deal proudly} {deposed: Chaldee, made to come down}
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast set thine heart as the heart of God;

Against whom do ye sport yourselves? against whom make ye a wide mouth, {and} draw out the tongue? {are} ye not children of transgression, a seed of falsehood,

And the mean man shall be brought down, and the mighty man shall be humbled, and the eyes of the lofty shall be humbled:

And Moses and Aaron came in unto Pharaoh, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, How long wilt thou refuse to humble thyself before me? let my people go, that they may serve me.
They are not humbled {even} unto this day, neither have they feared, nor walked in my law, nor in my statutes, that I set before you and before your fathers. {humbled: Heb. contrite}
Make ye him drunken: for he magnified {himself} against the LORD: Moab also shall wallow in his vomit, and he also shall be in derision.
This shall they have for their pride, because they have reproached and magnified {themselves} against the people of the LORD of hosts.
