And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that {was} in the camp trembled.
{Am} I a God at hand, saith the LORD, and not a God afar off?
For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest,
Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
The mountains skipped like rams, {and} the little hills like lambs.
And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and {there were} seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

(I stood between the LORD and you at that time, to shew you the word of the LORD: for ye were afraid by reason of the fire, and went not up into the mount;) saying,
The LORD talked with you face to face in the mount out of the midst of the fire,
And it came to pass, when ye heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, (for the mountain did burn with fire,) that ye came near unto me, {even} all the heads of your tribes, and your elders;
And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; {but} the LORD {was} not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; {but} the LORD {was} not in the earthquake:
Thou calledst in trouble, and I delivered thee; I answered thee in the secret place of thunder: I proved thee at the waters of Meribah. Selah. {Meribah: or, Strife}
The people therefore, that stood by, and heard {it}, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him.
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
Out of heaven he made thee to hear his voice, that he might instruct thee: and upon earth he shewed thee his great fire; and thou heardest his words out of the midst of the fire.
And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.
{Specially} the day that thou stoodest before the LORD thy God in Horeb, when the LORD said unto me, Gather me the people together, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and {that} they may teach their children.

Did {ever} people hear the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as thou hast heard, and live?
The mountains melted from before the LORD, {even} that Sinai from before the LORD God of Israel. {melted: Heb. flowed}
The LORD also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave his voice; hail {stones} and coals of fire.
And the sound of the cherubims' wings was heard {even} to the outer court, as the voice of the Almighty God when he speaketh.
God came from Teman, and the Holy One from mount Paran. Selah. His glory covered the heavens, and the earth was full of his praise. {Teman: or, the south}
For if the ministration of condemnation {be} glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.
And ye came near and stood under the mountain; and the mountain burned with fire unto the midst of heaven, with darkness, clouds, and thick darkness. {midst: Heb. heart}
And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.
