But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:

Then was Daniel brought in before the king. {And} the king spake and said unto Daniel, {Art} thou that Daniel, which {art} of the children of the captivity of Judah, whom the king my father brought out of Jewry? {father: or, grandfather}

Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, which {is} of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but maketh his petition three times a day.

Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do {it} with thy might; for {there is} no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

If thou forbear to deliver {them that are} drawn unto death, and {those that are} ready to be slain;

These {are} the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city;

Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon: and he shaved {himself}, and changed his raiment, and came in unto Pharaoh. {brought...: Heb. made him run}
