Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, I will be king: and he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him. {be king: Heb. reign}
Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give {them} unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.
And he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: He will take your sons, and appoint {them} for himself, for his chariots, and {to be} his horsemen; and {some} shall run before his chariots.
Some {trust} in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.
He loveth transgression that loveth strife: {and} he that exalteth his gate seeketh destruction.
