And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.

Now therefore, O LORD God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit upon the throne of Israel; yet so that thy children take heed to their way to walk in my law, as thou hast walked before me. {There...: Heb. Howbeit the LORD would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and as he promised to give a light to him and to his sons for ever. {light: Heb. lamp, or, candle}

That the LORD may continue his word which he spake concerning me, saying, If thy children take heed to their way, to walk before me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall not fail thee (said he) a man on the throne of Israel. {fail...: Heb. be cut off from thee from the throne}

And Jehoiada made a covenant between the LORD and the king and the people, that they should be the LORD'S people; between the king also and the people.

Then will I stablish the throne of thy kingdom, according as I have covenanted with David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man {to be} ruler in Israel. {There...: Heb. There shall not be cut off to thee}

And their brethren, according to their generations, nine hundred and fifty and six. All these men {were} chief of the fathers in the house of their fathers.

Therefore came all the elders of Israel to the king to Hebron; and David made a covenant with them in Hebron before the LORD; and they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the LORD by Samuel. {by: Heb. by the hand of}

And Jehoiada made a covenant between him, and between all the people, and between the king, that they should be the LORD'S people.

And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.

So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and king David made a league with them in Hebron before the LORD: and they anointed David king over Israel.

His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me.

His seed also will I make {to endure} for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven.

And the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah his youngest son king in his stead: for the band of men that came with the Arabians to the camp had slain all the eldest. So Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah reigned.
